Antique Animal Prints by Johann Elias Ridinger
(1698? - 1766)

Johann Elias Ridinger is known for his many animal and hunting prints. He was a very prolific etcher, not only of copper etchings but also mezzotints. He was a student of G.P. Rugendas who influenced the printing of mezzotints. Ridinger also did some botanical plates for J.G. Weinman.

The TH-numbers refer to the Johann Elias Ridinger works catalog by Georg August Wilhelm Thienemann, published in the year 1856.

The copper etchings date between 1740 -1768

Copper engravings. The lion prints were published in 1738.

All prints are in good condition unless otherwise noted. Please remeber that these are antique prints with the patina of age with minor spotting and signs of use.
