"Germaniae veteris typus" Copper etching by Jacobo Monavio (Jacob Monau 1546 Breslau - Breslau 1603) Etched for Abraham Ortelius Published by Willem Blaeu Amsterdam, 1645 This historical map of Germany shows Germany and her adjacent countries. Place names, names of rivers, mountains, geographical and political areas as well as tribal names are in Latin language. They derive partially from latinized Celtic origin or were given by the Romans during their long imperial rule. Map reaches from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea and from the Netherlands to Vistula river and Romania. The Silesian Jacob Monau was one of those outstandingly well educated humanists, who taught in several European universities. Map is clean. Centerfold has been backed. Map has wide margins.
