This very large print is in excellent condition. The light general age toning enhances the appearance as a desirable patina.
Green color spots near coats-of-arms on right side.If there are any faults at all they are not worth mentioning.

Print has vertical centerfold and, because of its oversize and in order to fit the atlas size, a horizontal fold
to meet the size of the book it was published in. Reverse side has title in ink hand writing.

Nuremberg was an important, wealthy and productive Freie Reichsstadt (Free Imperial city in the Holy Roman Empire).
Nuremberg was the city of Albrecht Dürer and many other important German Renaissance artist.
Nuremberg is the city where the Schedel Chronicle was printed in 1493. Nuremberg was a wealthy business city
with rich, proud, influential  and powerful patrician families - (whom we see depicted in this print)

The reverse side has Latin text celebrating the fame and importance of this Franconian city (now in Bavaria)
A few leters on th left side of the text have been covered,.

The condition is superb. The original hand coloring outstanding. There is, not touching
the image, a minor crease in the lower right margin corner, as the only blemish (if you choose to call it that).
And there is a repaired little tear in the left margin, again not touching the image.

"Bartenstein" - Partenstein castle

There are only ruins left of this medieval castle above the small town of Partenstein in the Franconia Spessart mountains. We can see on this print the, between the horse and the flutist, the3 symbolic depiction of Partenstein town.

The allegoric text, in Latin and in German, refers to Heracles (Herkules) and the 8th of his labors. Heracles had the task to bring back from Diomedes, king of the Thrakiens, the fierce, man-eating mares. We can see, as symbols referring to Heracles, the skin of the Nemean Lion, the Heracles club, and the fallen royal crown of Diomedes. On the right side of the print we see a horse rider and a flutist. This refers to an old German saying: To give a horse for nitty gritty values. This saying serves the artist also for the title of the print

High on a hill to the right of the Danube is the Marienburg Castle. In the background is the village of Herdingsfeld. The title is in the upper part of the map with the coat-of-arms in the center. The map legend is at the bottom gives reference to important buiding monuments.. Around theentire map is a small, decorative painted frame.

Repaired tear on lower margin edge right of centerfold. Repaired tear in upper margin that reaches into title. Minor signs of age and use. Strong image.
