BOTANICAL PRINTS BY WEINMANN

Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741) was the son of a barber.

He became a renowned botanist, pharmacist, book author in Regensburg, where he bought a bankrupt pharmacy. His business flourished, which gave him opportunity to publish 4 large volumes of botany. He named it "Phytanthoza Iconographica", which he published between 1737 and 1745. The full title: "Phytanthoza Iconographica sive conspectus aliquot millium, tam indigenarum quam exoticarum, ex quatuor mundi partibus. plantarum, arborum, fruticum, florum, fructuum, fungorumÉ"

The plates are copper etchings, printed in basic color and hand-finished. The plants shown come from all over the world.

Prints have natural signs of age and use. Special faults are described.

Each page is ca. 39 x 24 cm (15.3 x 9.4")
